Festivals
Annual Frank Brown Songwriters FestivalThursday, Nov 13th, 2008 - Sunday, Nov 23rd, 2008
Various venues, check website for complete details.
THE FRANK BROWN INTERNATIONAL SONGWRITERS' FESTIVAL at it's inception was an idea born to honor Mr. Frank Brown (the night watchman at the Flora~Bama Lounge) through a gathering of the writers he so loved and admired. Today the festival provides an atmosphere to promote all writers, whether they had written hit songs which made people open their eyes and view the world in a different way or they are aspiring writers and musicians who knew they could do the same but needed a forum in order to get their music out to the world.
The mission of The Frank Brown International Songwriters' Festival is to continue to provide a stage for all types of music to be born. In addition, through the sponsorship of businesses large and small, the festival is a major contributor in the fall season which is financially our slowest time of the year.

Pepsi Star Series and The Wharf presents: 3 Doors Down with Special Guests: Switchfoot and American Bang at The Wharf AmphitheaterThursday, Dec 4th, 2008
Price: Ticket prices: $44.50 and $42.50.
Gates open 6:00 p.m. Showtime: 7:00 p.m. 3 DOORS DOWN formed in Escatawpa, Mississippi, the resilient fivesome has blazed a trail as the quintessential rock band, attaining massive mainstream success but somehow never losing that small town identity that has branded them rock’s truest underdogs. Check out videos, music, shows and more on their website here. Switchfoot is an American alternative rock band from San Diego, California. Known for their energetic live shows the three guitarists in the line-up often operate simultaneously, building on the pop sensibilities of Jon's songwriting, and, rounded out by Jerome's work on the synthesizer, bringing his industrial roots to the sound, the band works up "the Switchfoot sound" a melodic crunch of densely layered sound featuring some electronic experimentation, and often driven by hard-charging guitar riffs, while throwing in a few softer, spacey ballads as well. Visit their website here. American Bang, four high-school friends from Nashville, TN, are the real deal. Their unruly brand of Southern-fried garage-rock packs one hell of a punch, with Jaren Johnston’s swaggering bluesy vocals muscling up against Ben Brown’s blistering guitar riffs, Kelby Ray’s aggro basslines, and Neil Mason’s burly drumming. The guys tear through songs like “All Night Long,” “American Ride,” and “Good as Gold,” with the flair and confidence of rock’n’roll veterans. Visit their website here.
